TPTK: Commit or Pot Control
mtrip from 2+2 asks:
What are the criteria to keep in mind when deciding whether you’re willing to build a big pot with TPTK?
Specifically, what factors/information lead to a strong line vs a ‘pot control’ line? When do you get away from the hand and when do you commit?
Answer from DiggertheDog:
Stack off
If all or most of these conditions are met I would be driving the action hard and looking to get the money in.
1) You are the Preflop raiser
2) You have position and it keeps getting checked to you
3) Your top pair is Ace or King
4) Villian is not a regular winner or Nit.
5) If there is an obvious unmade draw out there on not a too wet board.
6) There is no known history between you and the player that suggests he is an “upside down player”Pot control
If your top pair is jack or worse.
If villian has position and there is no reasonable draw out there.
If you receive any playback on non draw flops.
If you are not the preflop raiser.
If you do not have position and or its multi way.
If villian is a solid winner or nit.
Heavy draw boards - double two suit boards - heavy broadway boards
